Boiling Point Ingredients
Cocoa Extract - Substances found in chocolate, such as phenylethylamine, theobromine, anandamide and tryptophan trigger mood enhancing chemicals and neurotransmitters to be released in the brain. Phenylethylamine is a chemical found in the body that is similar to amphetamine. It helps mediate feelings of giddiness, attraction, euphoria and excitement. Researchers believe phenylethylamine causes the brain to release mesolimbic dopamine in the pleasure centers of the brain. Theobromine is a close structural relative of caffeine, but has one-tenth the stimulating effect caffeine has.
Green Tea Extract - Recent clinical research suggests green tea extracts are beneficial for improving endurance capacity as well as the stimulation of fat metabolism. Green Tea is also one on the best known and most researched antioxidants, and has years of use and research backing up its efficacy. The main active catechin in green tea is EGCG or epigallocatechin gallate. It appears to be the most powerful of the catechins with antioxidant activity about 25-100 times more potent than vitamins C and E.
Recent studies have suggested catechins play a substantial role in promoting weight loss. In one study it was suggested that green tea had a significant suppression of food intake, body weight gain and fat tissue accumulation. Even more interesting was that the study suggested Leptin levels in serum showed a decrease with green tea, indicating that green tea may have a direct effect on lowering body weight. Other studies suggest that green tea increases thermogenesis (increased caloric expenditure). In these studies, it suggests that green tea extract stimulates thermogenesis to an extent that is much greater than could be achieved by its caffeine content, meaning that the thermogenic properties of green tea may be due to an interaction between its high content of catechin-polyphenols along with caffeine. It is believed that the thermogenic effect of green tea is due to an increase in the levels of norepinephrine (a stimulatory catecholamine) because catechin-polyphenols are known to inhibit catechol-O-methyl-transferase (the enzyme that degrades norepinephrine). One study tested the effect of green tea extract on 24-hour energy expenditure in 10 healthy men. The results suggested that the green tea extract resulted in a significant increase in 24-hour energy expenditure (approximately 800 calories per day) and a significant increase in the body's use of fat as an energy source. It also suggested that the 24-hour urinary norepinephrine excretion was 40% higher during treatment with the green tea extract than with the placebo, suggesting that green tea increased norepinephrine output. Also the same amount of caffeine that was present in the green tea was used alone and had no effect on energy expenditure of fat oxidation, further suggesting that the thermogenic properties of green tea are due to compounds other than caffeine alone.
Caffeine - Chemically known as trimethylxanthine, caffeine is a compound made up of four of the most common elements: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen. Caffeine, a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant is one of the best-tested ergogenic aids and is known to help athletes train harder and longer. It also stimulates the brain and contributes to clearer thinking and greater concentration.
There are more than 70 studies on the utilization of caffeine for both endurance exercise and short-term, high intensity exercise. The vast majority conclude that caffeine does indeed enhance performance and makes the effort seem easier. The average improvement in performance is about 12 percent, with greater benefits noticed during endurance exercise. In research studies, the amount of caffeine that enhances performance ranges from 1.5 to 4 mg/lb body weight taken one hour before exercise. For a 150 lb person, this comes to about 225 to 600 mg with more not necessarily giving better results.
Caffeine safely improves many of the mental functions necessary to be successful in athletics like speeding up reaction time, supporting processing skills, supporting alertness and the ability to concentrate. Furthermore, caffeine supports the utilization of free fatty acids by the muscles enhancing endurance and fat burning while sparing muscle glycogen.
One of the major myths against athletes using caffeine is that caffeine causes dehydration. This has recently been put to the test found to be false. Previously, urine was collected only at 2 and 4 hour periods and caffeine did increase urine output in these time frames. In this study 24 hour urine volume was measured. Results suggested that subjects had no detrimental effects of caffeine on 24-hour urine volume, meaning that by day's end, the urine losses were similar whether the person consumed no caffeine or a high dose.
N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine - L-tyrosine is the precursor to dopamine, noradrenaline and adrenaline. It has been found to potentiate the effects of noradrenaline-releasing compounds. N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine is an acetylated derivative of the essential amino acid L-tyrosine. Ordinary Tyrosine is less stable and is insoluble in water, which may result in reduced bioavailability. Acetylation enhances the solubility and stability of certain amino acids. N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine supports enhanced brain function by supporting the synthesis of the catecholamines norepinephrine and dopamine (neurotransmitters).
Raspberry Ketone - An aromatic compound found in red raspberries. The molecular structure is similar to capsaicin, another thermogenic compound, but instead of working through the beta receptors (like capsaicin), raspberry ketone causes hormone-sensitive lipase to translocate within the fat cells. Hormone-sensitive lipase is the enzyme that breaks apart fat molecules into various fatty acids once inside the fat cell for fat metabolism. This is the rate-limiting step in lipolysis within the cells, meaning that you cannot have maximum lipolysis without enough hormone-sensitive lipase inside the fat cells.
Ascorbic Acid - Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant as well as a necessary cofactor for the conversion of l-tyrosine to dopamine. It is required in the synthesis of collagen in connective tissue, neurotransmitters, carnitine, and conversion of cholesterol to bile acids supporting iron bioavailability. Ascorbic acid is a great antioxidant and helps protect the body against pollutants. Because vitamin C is a biological reducing agent. Ascorbic acid also promotes healthy cell development, proper calcium absorption, and normal tissue growth.
Hordenine - Hordenine is chemically related to the amino acid tyramine and is quickly gaining a reputation as an effective supplement that helps people to lose weight. The research on hordenine is minimal, but scientists hypothesize that hordenine can help people lose weight by stimulating norepinephrine release. Hordenine may also helps with weight loss and weight maintenance by slowing food digestion, making it easier to go longer between meals and lowering overall caloric intake, speeding satiation and eliminating hunger pains and food cravings.
Citrus Aurantium Extract - Also known as bitter orange, citrus aurantium has been used for thousands of years. More recently, it has been suggested that compounds, mostly synephrine, from these small orange fruits demonstrated powerful thermogenic ("fat-burning") activity. Citrus aurantium appears to work by way of its active compound synephrine which appears to reduce appetite and boost metabolism, the rate our bodies burn calories, thus stimulating fat loss. Citrus aurantium also contains other thermogenic compounds like octopamine, tyramine and hordenine.
Black Pepper Extract/Bioperine - Bioperine is a standardized extract from the fruit of Piper nigrum L (black pepper) or Piper longum L (long pepper). It contains 95 percent piperine. The metabolic process that generates energy at the cellular level in the human body is called thermogenesis. Though thermogenesis has been identified as a key factor in maintaining weight loss, it has also been identified as playing an integral role in utilizing the daily food and nutrients that the human body consumes. It sets in motion the mechanisms that lead to digestion and subsequent gastrointestinal absorption. Piperine, found in black pepper, enhances the body's natural thermogenic activity. This enhancement may be explained as a means of increasing the thermal energy sufficient to "power up" the mechanism related to thermogenesis. This in turn results in increased metabolic processes that creates a demand for a broad range of nutrients that contribute to metabolism, i.e. vitamins, minerals, herbals, amino acids, etc. It is as if piperine activates a metabolic stimulus that selectively provides a more efficient mode of nutrient transportation into the blood.
Vitamin B12 - An essential nutrient which is also known as, cobalamin. The cobal in the name refers to the metal cobalt contained in B 12. Vitamin B plays a role in the body's manufacture of S-adenosylmethionine (Same). Methylcobalamin is the form of vitamin B12 active in the central nervous system. It is an active coenzyme of the vitamin B12 analogs, which is essential for cell growth and replication. The liver may not convert cyanocobalamin, the common supplemental form of vitamin B12, into adequate amounts of methylcobalamin the body may need for proper neuronal functioning. Methylcobalamin may exert its neuroprotective effects through enhanced methylation, acceleration of nerve cell growth, or its ability to promote healthy homocysteine levels.
